Wye & Oak in Benson

A few weeks ago, our friends invited us to Wye & Oak in Benson.  We hadn't really heard of them before, but we thought we'd take a chance.  I was a big fan of the opening band, Braids, but Wye & Oak was a little slow for me.  Still, they were pretty fun to take pictures of, and we had an awesome night out with friends!

Before the show we went up to the Sydney for a couple drinks to celebrate Friday!

Bachelorette Party: Gatsby Style

Wow.  May just flew by.  And it might have been one of the greatest months in my life.  I had bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and weddings galore!  Not to mention Adam getting an awesome job here in town.  My brother even got a job in town too!  Whew, that's a lot of stuff.  Adam and I got married a week and a half ago, and we just got back from our honeymoon in Estes Park, which rounded out our perfect month.  But let's start at the beginning:  Bachelorette party.

My bachelorette party theme was Great Gatsby!  It was perfect.  Everyone dressed up, because really all you needed was a slinky black/dark dress, pearls, curls and a headpiece!  We got ready at the hotel, where I snapped a couple photos, but I didn't bring my camera downtown for dinner and barhopping.  Sad face!

Here are a couple instagram pics from our night on the town.  I love these girls!

One of my friends gave me an adult mad lib book, so I went around asking random strangers for nouns and adjectives!  It was fun, but it was sad how many people don't know what a noun is!!  Ended up with some funny mad libs though!

It was a great night, followed by brunch and bloody mary's the next morning.  My ladies know how to celebrate :)

Bowling Birthdays

Our Board Game group had a couple birthdays over the last month, so to celebrate, we decided to go bowling (something most of us hadn't done in a long time).  Turns out, it was super fun!  Although I think my score just barely eeked over 50 both games!

Olive was very helpful.  She was my good luck charm towards the end!

Someone put Nate in charge of names.  For some reason, I was Voldemort.  Rude.

It was a super fun time, and I would definitely go bowling again.  Maybe next time I'll be able to get above 75!!

Flashback Friday: Christmas Edition

Every Christmas, our friends get together for an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party.  So many Omahans have spread across the country, and it's so much fun to get together with all of them and reconnect.  This year we had a white elephant gift exchange, which is always a riot.  I tell you, the stuff our friends come up with to give is classic.

Our friends' daughter, Daizy, is quite possibly one of the cutest children out there (along with all my other friends kids; I promise I'm not biased).  She and Lady Killer, my brother's cat, had a nice little dance going, where Daizy would try and pet him, he would run away, Daizy would start coloring, and he would get interested.  You know cats, they're just cruel.

It's fun to see our friend-family grow.  We've all been friends for decades, and I love that we are all still in contact with each other.  Seeing everyone turn into the people they are meant to become warms my heart.  I know we have at least two new members being added to our friend-family this year, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for all of us.

My Bridal Shower

This past Saturday, my wonderful sister in law threw my bridal shower!  It was such a blast!  I should have taken pictures of the food (which was delicious), but I got photos with some of my favorite ladies!

I feel so blessed to have such wonderful women in my life.  They have helped fill this whole process with fun and not stress.  Thanks to everyone who made Saturday such a great day!!

Music Monday Revived

Have you ever heard of Cloud Cult?  I heard of them a long time ago, but didn't really pay attention to them until I heard an NPR story about them a year ago.  The article focused on their (then) new album, and how their personal lives and tragedy had played into their songs.  The lead singer's two year old son died in his sleep one night, and the singer used songwriting to cope.

The last thing that he said in the story really struck me, and it's stayed with me all this time.  Probably because I was nearing the one year anniversary of my father's death.

He had become enthralled with the science behind death, and thermodynamics.  He said, "Basically, what it says is that energy cannot be destroyed; it can only be transformed.  So any kind of energy that you put out there never goes away. Everything that we did together, every moment that we had together, everything that he felt and everything that I felt for him still resonates out there in the universe. And I refuse to believe anything less than the idea that I'll somehow be with my son again."

I feel the same about my dad.  I just would never have been able to put it into such eloquent words.  Reading them still brings tears to my eyes.  But I am thankful that someone put words to my thoughts.

Flashback Friday: November BFF

Adam has been poking fun of me recently, since I have started posting pictures from recently, when I still have pictures to share from last year!  So in order to keep up with what I've got and still share everything I want, I have decided to start Flashback Friday!  I'll play catch-up this way, and then start sharing older pictures that I haven't pulled out of iPhoto in a while :)

So these photos are from (I believe) November Benson First Friday.  It was the Friday after Halloween, so everyone was still getting dressed up and having fun.  Adam and I decided to head up to the Benson Brewery for dinner, and we were there for the tapping of the keg!!  It was pretty cool.

After dinner we met up with some friends and headed to the Satchel Grande show at the Waiting Room.  If you haven't heard of Satchel Grande, you're missing out.  They are a seventies funk band that gets everyone dancing.  They never disappoint!
